Geography is a great game for families on long drives or for them to play on summer nights outside. Any number of people can play in the game—and adults and children alike can enjoy this game. You may add or change the rules of the game to fit your needs and desires.

Kids Educational Games: How To Play Geography

When you’re playing the kids educational game of geography, you’ll first begin the game with one player naming a geographical item. This can be either a city, state, country, a body of water, a mountain range, or whatever geographical item he wants. The player to the left of the first player then continues, and must name a second geographical reference that begins with the last letter from the first reference. So, if the category is “States” and the first player says “Utah,” the second player must then name a state that begins with “H.” In this example, the second player might say “Hawaii.”

Kids Educational Games: How To Win at Geography

You win at the kids’ educational game of geography by being the player who has the greatest knowledge of geography. Each player must add on to the last player’s geographical item, but no geographical location can be repeated. Each player must keep a mental list of what has been said already. If a player can’t think of a geographical item, or if the player repeats one that has already been mentioned, he’s out of the game. You win a game of geography by being the last player to remain in the game.

Many families keep an atlas handy while playing this game. If you run out of state, city, or country names, it can be a great learning experience to refer to the atlas to learn more about those locations or to learn about additional states, cities, or countries.
